The issue begins by recapping the adventures of the ones that have earned the name “The Adventurers” speaking of how they had managed to say Tecumeth, lured Belegard the Dragon to its death, destroyed the Tower of Tarrus, and braved the Angora Jungles. The recap goes over the defeat of the Chaos Beast as well as the Man-Gods who had been cursed by Baal to live forever in the Lost City of Baali.

The issue then comes to the present with the Adventurers (Shadolok, Bladehelm, Eyamma and Nightwind) arriving to the City of Liam – thinking they would be welcomed, but instead find themselves surrounded by Baal Soldiers!

Elsewhere in the City of Liam, Priest Muar shows up for one of the Liam Council Meetings. When Relk and Erikor question his presence, he informs them that Guryd took a leave of absence and appointed him to take the position of High Councilor in Guyrd’s place. Priest Muar feigns distaste for the way he is treated and leaves, knowing that the Council Meeting can not continue without his presence.

Outside Liam, Belgur questions why the soldiers are not mobilized for attack. One of them explains that they must do the sacred Fydyrian Ritual. Belgur snaps and says that there’s no time to wait for the priest to begin the ritual – and that after drinking from the Grail of Darkness, he is like a god – like Baal himself! – and needs no priest. Barak questions Belgur’s act of initiating the Ritual himself, and Belgur back hands him warning Barak to never question him again.

The scene shifts to a dungeon in Liam where two of the guards finish making the slop for their newest prisoners. Summoning Sultar, they command him to bring the slop to them. Trying to insure he isn’t recognized by his former comrades, Sultar feeds them the slop. Shadolok warns them to not eat it, but Bladehelm is too hungry – and much to his surprise finds a scroll rolled up in the slop, protected from its liquid. Opening it they find it to be a note that says, “In the worst darkness there is always light. – Sultar.”

Elsewhere, Kerrin the Butcher rides in the cart that has Coron on the torture rack, bringing to the City of Ur for Thanatos to decide Coron’s fate. Brought before Thanatos, it becomes clear that Coron has failed and that the Grail has fallen into the hands of King Belgur. Summonging General Zaranar to gather all the citizens of Ur to the Square to witness Coron’s death – so that all will know his name will be stricken from the books and never to be spoken again!
