The issue begins with Anubis weaving a spell that invokes everyone’s personal fears. For some, their terrors render them helpless. For others, like Coron, it’s but a minor distraction. But for Sultar, it is literally, a living hell, as he sees Oneida – a fire demon, whom he had made a pact with many years ago. For Nightwind, she has returned to the scene of the massacre that claimed her clan – as the dead rise and chant for her to take her own life and to die with them, as she should have. For Argent, he is surrounded by the death of those he knows and holds close to his heart. For Shadolok, he is home, ensnared and trapped by his brother, whose own jealousy has turned to vile poison. For Bladehelm he is with his family, all of them slain not so long ago – the wound is deep in his heart. And finally for Dhakab, he is buried up to his neck in the sands of his desert home.

Coron manages to infiltrate Dhakab’s morbid vision and frees him from his fear. Coron and Dhakab set out to do the impossible – kill that which is already dead. Anubis mentions that Coron’s name is tied to some future – and for that, he must kill Coron. But he doesn’t get the chance as Shadolok breaks free of his nightmare and brings the roof toppling down on top of Anubis.

With Anubis’ demise the underground crypt begins to cave in. As the others flee for their life, Shadolok returns for the Key. Grabbing it, he sprints back to the others and barely manages to get out before the entire crypt has collapsed upon itself.

The scene shifts to Thanatos XXIX speaking with Haka. He gives Haka some orders and tells him to grab his deadliest men and follow the orders within the scrolls.

The scene shifts back to the City of Liam, where Tarrus One-Eyed thanks the Adventurers, and explains there’s yet another key – this one in Mount Galatia. As it turns out, Mount Galatia is now the home of Belegard the Dragon, who slew thousands of dwarves – Bladehelm’s own family! Understanding the danger, Tarrus One-Eyed offers ten times the regular payment. The Adventurers agree to go, in one week’s time, when Dhakab has recovered from his wounds.

The scene shifts to the House of Purgum, Master Healer, where Dhakab fights off an infection. Haka meets with Coron there, and Coron explains that Dhakab is his slave and will kill the most dangerous of the group, so that Haka and Coron can complete their plan as Thanatos XXIX desired.
