He came from a long line of family members, who excelled at always creating the next best steam contraption before any other family could.

One day, while Teendargo struggled to continue the family tradition, feeling the pressure of trying to create the next best steam invention; he buckled and turned to magic. Rather than studying the endless volumes of books that his family had penned over generations of steam creation; he turned to magic to see how he might take one of his family’s existing plans and infuse it with magic – doing something no other gnome had thought to do before!

One day, he showed off the “Steampack” – which was a backpack, full of copper pipes, moving gears, and a vat of hot water and steam. The “Steampack” was new and improved (the original family design would allow those who wore it; under a specific weight; to briefly glide; which was nice to glide across some of the caverns within the mountains – however, the steam from the pack would frequently burn the back of the legs of those who used it). Treendargo’s invention was infused with magic, which protected the wearer’s legs from being burned by the exhaust of steam coming out of the back of the “Steampack.”

The gnomish community was wildly impressed by the invention, and the idea of fusing magic and steam together; and it began a new trend. When Teendargo returned to his home to pen the invention notes into the family volume; he was greatly dismayed to find that the notes were no longer where they had been! (Unbeknownst to him, a fellow gnome by the name of Tenjii had “acquired” his blue print plans of the “New And Improved Magical Steampack”). He tried to recreate the plans from memory; but never could quite duplicate the plans (those who wore either would veer wildly to the right, spin in endless circles, or sputter across the ground – like skimming a stone across a lake). Dismayed, he ventured out into the outside world to see if he could strength his magical abilities.

While traveling along a common road, he camped with a small traveling circus which was abuzz about news of “greater evil awakening across the world.” When Teendargo asked about it, they had mentioned that a noble King named Saric was betrayed by his own brother; and that evil beings were roaming the land in greater frequency; and that there were even “evil temples” rising from the swamps in distant lands. Teendargo decided that he would seek out this King Saric and see if he could help. Along the road he encountered a Dwarven warrior named Bodrag, who was also headed to King Saric and offered him passage and protection

Want to help?
