Those who had no died in the ambush were overtaken by Cult of Five fanatics who’d been waiting for the blue dragon’s initial attack.

Had it not been for Ragnaroc’s close friend, and fellow soldier, Afinal, a fellow Aasimar soldier, Ragnaroc would have perished in the blue dragon’s strike. Instead, Afinal perished, as Ragnaroc tumbled down the small dune, striking his head against a rock, and rendering himself unconscious.

Unfortunately, Ragnaroc had been found by the Cult fanatics, who quickly captured the dazed Aasimar soldier and brought him before their current master – the blue dragon, Kalik’tor.

Kalik’tor (meaning ‘the sky death’) took interest in Ragnaroc due to his Aasamir bloodline. Kalik’tor knew that somewhere in Ragnaroc’s bloodline there’d been some form of angelic taint that allowed Ragnaroc to be born with this angelic blood.

Kalik’tor took great pleasure in torturing Ragnaroc, leaving his angelic body full of scars. But when this did not seem to break Ragnaroc’s resolve, Kalik’tor took to bringing out the other captured soldiers, and killing them in front of Ragnaroc who he kept chained to a wall, to bear witness to the demise of his fellow soldiers.

Despite his attempts to break out of the admantine bonds, Ragnaroc was forced to watch each and every member of his battalion die before him. Some, Kalik’tor had let suffer moaning as death slowly came for them – their dying sounds filling Ragnaroc’s ears every night. Ragnaroc called out to the gods, but no answer came – and it was Kalik’tor who revealed why. He explained that where they were, the gods could not see or hear them. So Ragnaroc closed his eyes and called out not for the gods – but for a demon or devil – or some power that would allow him to break free and exact his revenge on Kalik’tor.

The answer came from a demon named Belaros. Belaros had a strong hatred for Thyamat and her minions and saw this as an opportunity to strike out against one of the dragon goddess’ own. Belaros told Ragnaroc that he could grant the Aasimar power – but it would come with a cost. He would require the soul of his first child. Ragnaroc agreed, believing that he would simply never marry and have a child; however, those who deal with Belaros either give him the soul of their first child, or within a year of the deal being made, they promise their own soul to him upon their demise. Ragnaroc did not care and soon was empowered by dark magic that allowed him to shatter the adamantine shackles that kept him in place. He ran down the dark hall and confronted Kalik’tor – and managed to strike the blue dragon directly in the eye, blinding Kalik’tor – who roared in anger and brought down the mountain. Ragnaroc barely escaped, and watched as Kalik’tor flew west. Ragnaroc continued to hunt down Kalik’tor, and learned of reports that the blue dragon may have made its way towards to new continent.

Ragnaroc booked passage to the new continent aboard a ship called the Skytide. Upon arriving he’d heard news of a small town called Spire’s Edge that had been attacked by a blue dragon and kobolds, and quickly made his way there. He arrived just as the town was under siege by demons. He assisted the town against the demons, and saw a group of others doing the same. After the battle, he’d heard one of their members, who quickly left – mention something about “a war in the heavens.” Not only was Ragnaroc curious if the blue dragon that had attacked Spire’s Edge was none other that Kalik’tor, but he wondered if he could learn more about this “war in the heavens” and how it might be able to save his soul from the contract he’d made with Belaros.

Want to help?
