Mammoth (California), I saw a sign for a town called Ridgecrest. I absolutely loved the name and jotted it down on my notepad iPhone App to use one day. When I started the new game with 5th Edition, Ridgecrest was born into my world – but I didn’t have much for it planned out.

Then one day on my way to work, I pass an apartment/condo complex called “High Ridge.” And that gave birth to the idea that Ridgecrest was split between three area, dependent on the person’s social class; High Ridge (Rich), Mid Ridge (Middle Class), Low Ridge (Slums).

Shadow Mountain (above Spire’s Edge) is a place up near Mammoth (near Ridgecrest, since I had seen both signs fairly close to one another if I remember correctly).

West Brook is a street near where I live.

Pern’s Rest was a name inspired by Dragons of Pern (books, because that area has white dragons).

New Moon Forest comes from ElfQuest. Cutter’s sword is named New Moon.

The Fern Dale is the street where I (curently) live (Ferndale).

Silver Crown castle is an alias for Grey Skull (a He-Man reference).

Nor’Orn – a goblin NPC comes from Norman Osborn, who is the Green Goblin in the Spider Man comics

Boogle – Boogle is a boggle who was experimented on and his flesh turned a purplish pink color and is a reference to Boogle from the game Torin’s Passage

In the world of Kne’Urth – it varies than standard D&D in regards to Driders. Standard D&D – Driders are shunned by Drow. In Kne’Urth – only females can become Driders – and only the faithful survive the process, physically taking up the embodiment of their long, forgotten, ancient goddess

Sand Sharks – I introduced “Sand Sharks” – sharks that actually swim in the sand in Session 52 of one of my games. This was a nod to one of my favorite monsters in Star Frontiers also known as a “sand shark” that swims through sand. I made the Sand Sharks very memorable to the party (i.e., very dangerous and feared). So that was quite wonderful to have left a lasting impression on the players, since the creatures in Star Frontiers had left a lasting impression on me

Want to help?
