and Darko explains they&#8217;re known as Mage Hunters <em>(See <a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/adventure-notes\/servants-of-the-wizard\/servants-of-the-wizard-31-40\/servants-of-the-wizard-40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Session 40<\/a>)<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Darko explains that they&#8217;re humans that can switch to their insect form<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In their insect form &#8211; which they&#8217;re currently in &#8211; they are most dangerous<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kavium recommends trying to stealth by them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aros explains that he will see how well they can stealth; and disappears<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Galiena asks Kavium if she can see him; and Kavium whispers, &#8220;Be silent, like the gentle breeze; and soon enough, you will hear the sound of his squeaky ducks.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As Aros stealths back, one of the Mage Hunters turns &#8211; hearing rubble as Aros foots slips slightly &#8211; and says, &#8220;Did you hear something?&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Probably the zombies,&#8221; the other Mage Hunter explains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This gives Aros an idea; he recommends the party wear zombie parts and pretend to be zombies and get past the Mage Hunters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kavium says it&#8217;s a good idea &#8211; but they could just rub the blood of the zombies all over them &#8211; and that should be enough<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>DM Note &#8211; I offered the party to either do Performance &#8211; to pretend to be zombies; or Deception to deceive the Mage Hunters into believing that they&#8217;re zombies &#8211; and made the DC 12, just above average<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-26.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-26.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9110\" width=\"580\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-26.png 598w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-26-300x97.png 300w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-26-500x162.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As they bypass the Mage Hunters and get to the center of town &#8211; they see a large town park, where children once gathered &#8211; however, it&#8217;s overrun by zombies&#8230; and other undead&#8230; however, these zombies seem more aware&#8230; the party realizes, the closer they get to where this &#8220;tiny star&#8221; fell, the more undead there are &#8211; and the more &#8220;aware&#8221; they are&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-27.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9113\" width=\"509\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-27.png 563w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-27-300x168.png 300w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-27-500x281.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 509px) 100vw, 509px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aros takes notice to one particular undead that seems to be pacing back and forth and makes him feel more worried than the others &#8211; as shadows and mist seem to warp around this particular undead creature&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-28.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-28.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9115\" width=\"386\" height=\"552\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aros, Galiena and Kavium realize that trying to sneak past these undead may be far more difficult than the Mage Hunters&#8230; they look and see there&#8217;s a building or two they can try to use for cover, and go behind the buildings to reach the graveyard just beyond the park&#8230;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>DM Note &#8211; As they snuck around to the other side &#8211; I had<\/em> <em>Galiena and Aros roll a d4 to combine to determine if anything was in the alleyway<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-29.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"397\" height=\"432\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-29.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9117\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-29.png 397w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-29-276x300.png 276w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Combined they rolled a 7 &#8211; so nothing in the alleyway!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>With nothing in the alleyway &#8211; the party is able to sneak through the alleyway &#8211; and just ahead see the graveyard. The party makes their way there &#8211; and takes notice there are two creature &#8211; that seem to patrol the area &#8211; flying east and west at different intervals &#8211; they quickly note all the eyes&#8230; as if they were created to protect whatever is here&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-30.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-30.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9118\" width=\"392\" height=\"498\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After a chaotic time, moving through the graveyard, using what they could for cover, each time one was passing by <em>(and burning some Inspiration<\/em>) &#8211; the party is finally able to cross the graveyard and stand before a large tower that is on the northern end of Chalice &#8211; and that&#8217;s when they&#8217;re greeted by a horrific monster<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-31.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-31.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9119\" width=\"453\" height=\"525\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The entire party recognizes this as some form of Beholder &#8211; and by the appearance of it &#8211; an undead one<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Beholder sees the party and shouts, &#8220;Where am I? How did I come to be here? What is this place? I saw the Cosmos! Where am I? How did I get here? Who are you to think you can stand against me?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-32.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-32.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9120\" width=\"543\" height=\"142\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-32.png 758w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-32-300x79.png 300w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-32-500x131.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>DM Note &#8211; As the battle raged, I had the players roll for which Beholder attack would happen&#8230; and it didn&#8217;t always go well&#8230;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-33.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-33.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9122\" width=\"506\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-33.png 577w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-33-300x136.png 300w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-33-500x227.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sometimes it worked out however&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-34.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-34.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9123\" width=\"527\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-34.png 624w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-34-300x116.png 300w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-34-500x194.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Galiena is able to finally bring the undead Beholder down &#8211; with a flurry of Witch Bolts focused on the undead monstrosity &#8230;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The best explodes, sending fragments of bone it&#8217;d used to pull itself together; but the party avoids the damage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aros finds a small, fractured gem, and picks it up and hears, <em>&#8220;I can fill your mind with infinite wisdom&#8230;&#8221;<\/em> He quickly shoves the gem fragment in his pouch. As they turn around, all the undead have collapsed to the ground &#8211; and the inky, black fog that surrounded Chalice was gone. As they make their way back &#8211; they find the tavern and find a mug and straw both with the name &#8220;Chalice&#8221; on it that they pocket<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aros, Galiena and Kavium head back and tell John Tallbane about the undead beholder; unsure of where it came from or what it was doing &#8211; but that it was clearly the root of the problem; because once it was destroyed the curse was lifted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Party Gains <strong>Darkstalkers Inspiration<\/strong> for helping John Tallbane, the Werewolf which is a reference to Jon Talbain the Werewolf from Darkstalkers<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-35.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-35.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9124\" width=\"527\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-35.png 1000w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-35-300x163.png 300w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-35-768x416.png 768w, http:\/\/tawmis.com\/kneurth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-35-500x271.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to help?
