RELATED TO THE GAME SPECIFICALLY:

  • Blaz’tik determined that the large floating stones in Grimrock emanated an incredible amount of magic
  • These magic stones are what gives Grimlock “life” and is what is responsible for keeping torches ignited and shaping some of the creatures in Grimrock well beyond their normal forms
  • The Undead Soldiers in Grimrock are Theraen Empire Soldiers who died within Grimrock, now animated by the Magic stones, reanimating them to continue their duty within Grimrock
  • Crowern are messenger birds created by mages, for the sole purpose of delivering messages and being able to defend themselves from those who would seek to intercept the messages
  • The Goromorg are the original Designers of Mount Grimrock – also known as The First Mages – having supposedly been thousands of years old; these mages, once human, were so obsessed with magic that their sold their soul and sanity, in order to grow in power; and this power was bestowed upon them by a Dark God; and the Goromorg emit a “fear essence” which is actually the magic that keeps them alive, simply seeking to absorb all life around them

CREATED SPECIFIC FOR THE STORY:

  • A Flerigan is a rodent like creature, that has a high reproduction count, and considered to be one of the largest annoyances. Because of this, the name is often used as a curse word. (For example, “What the flerigan does that say?”)
  • The Satarien Mages are essentially Grimrock’s version of Druids; they’re magic users, whose magic center strictly around nature
  • Crularious is a plant used by many healers that slows down the bleeding when applied to the wound; however, consumed, the plant proves to be poisonous; making those that eat violently sick and groggy
  • Mages of Des – or The Crimson Order – are a band of power hungry mages, who will go to any extremes to gain arcane knowledge – including torture and murder
  • In the city of Namaer (a city on the island of Maunlatore), it is tradition that Minotaurs, at the age of sixteen, venture to the tunnel maze below the city to see if they can survive; the maze is full of tunnel ogres, whose sole purpose is to kill and devour any Minotaur it finds
  • Creatures called Krakoun (similar to Kraken) are giant squids that are so large they are feared by sailors
  • Demons of Dex!” is an expression of annoyance. (This is actually a reference to Petri’s own Rogue-like game)
  • Isle of Nex was originally an island called Vacaria
    • A wizard in black robes, white hair, eyes of the moon named Talistan forged a Wizard’s tower and corrupted the land around it to protect the Mage’s Tower
    • The Wizard claimed Vacaria was an epicenter of magic, but the King and Queen of the land refused to hear him out
    • The Wizard opened a portal to another dimension and channeled powerful magic (turning normal rats into Ratling to become his servants)
    • The Ratlings revolted against him as he was deep in concentration of a powerful spell, which caused a massive explosion and changed Vacaria forever (the land was wiped out and magic ran rampant), and would become known as the Isle of Nex (short for the Isle of Nexus, because it’s said to be a nexus of magic)
