Another alternate reality version of Adam-X existed during the 2015 Age Of Apocalypse. In this series he appears under the name of Burner. The explanation of the change in his appearances comes a little later in the series.
Adam is seen chasing and fighting Carol Danvers at the beginning of the issue. Carol eludes to the fact that she and Adam once worked side by side in this version of the Age if Apocalypse.
As soon as Adam cuts her he warns her that one small cut is all it takes – and this is the first step in confirming that Burner is the Age of Apocalypse version of Adam-X.
The Burner version of Adam is seen next in the AoA story in a great panel at the end of the issue along side Magneto and Wolverine!
Burner lands on the variant cover of the 2015 Age of Apocalypse #2. It’s nice to see that someone thought it was worth putting Adam on the cover – even if it was a variant cover and not the main cover.
Similar to his first appearance in X-Force Annual #2, Burner cuts all of his enemies with blinding speed, then with a whisper of his catch phrase, his whispers, “Burn” and everyone’s electrolytes are ignited!
Magneto and his X-Men capture one of the opposing mutant leaders, none other than Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. Cyclops asks if Adam has learned to live with his own sins; and Adam assured him, every single day…
Despite being captured, Cyclops refuse to talk. Magneto regrets there’s only one way to get information – and it’s by force. He knows Adam’s mutant ability can be useful for making an enemy talk. What happens next is a very big thing, true believer!
When Adam attempts to use his power on Adam, he discovers – much to his surprise – his power has no effect on Cyclops! Why is this important? It’s been shown that Cyclops and Havok are immune to each other’s Powers because they’re brothers!
The next time we see Burner (AoA version of Adam) is on the inside cover – where it mentions that Adam has escaped Beast’s lab. I’m going to go into something about that – that I’m sure was not intended but still pretty cool.
Cyclops is convinced to help Magneto and his X-Men when it comes to saving Jean Grey. They break into Beast’s lab where Jean has been experimented on. White Queen taps into her mind and unlocks all of her own potential.
In Beast’s lab there is a tube for Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel. Only Adam’s tube is broken open and Adam talks about how this was home. Now the names are obviously Biblical references – but what’s cool is, technically so is Beast’s – as Satan is referenced as The Beast in the Bible.
Adam, Cyclops and Wolverine has scoped out Beast’s labs while they had been searching for Jean. Havok joins Cyclops with Wolverine and Burner – when they learn the plan of releasing a virus that maximizes mutant powers but burns them out in the process, killing them.
When tensions mount, it’s Adam who keeps things focused on the mission at hand. The Summers Brothers track down Doctor Nemesis…
Adam attacks Doctor Nemesis but it seems to have little effect – but then every attempt to hurt him seems impossible as he seems to be genetically enhanced to mimic everyone’s powers….
This doesn’t stop everyone from trying to put a stop to Doctor Nemesis… but with several abilities genetically modified at his disposal, there’s little any of them can do…
Doctor Nemesis begins killing those who oppose him – throwing Wolverine and Sabretooth into out space and when he attempts to incinerate Cyclops – Adam jumps in the way. When Cyclops asks why he did that, Adam answers, “Because that’s what brothers do.” Then he dies.
