The story begins with a young Delia recalling a distant memory of life outside of The House in the land of Pandona – where it was beautiful on the outside, but inside the land and the people were often rotten to the core. Delia finds herself about to be beaten – yet again – from a man named Jurrick, simply because she had eaten before she was supposed to. She tries to explain that she didn’t get to eat yesterday, but Jurrick gives little care of her plight.

A shadowy figure arrives and warns Jurrick to cease, but Jurrick is arrogant and aggressive and tries to beat the stranger as easily as he’d beaten a defenseless girl for years – but the shadowy stranger is able to anticipate Jurrick’s moves, and grabs him by the wrist, and with a small flick, breaks Jurrick’s forearm, sending Jurrick to the floor screaming out in pain. Delia decides to leave with her savior who explains that a prophecy he’d heard made him believe that she would be very special.

The stranger takes her to House Dracus, home of Lord Kitaya – overlord of Pandona. When a guard questions who is there – the stranger introduces himself as Master Sun, and they are permitted inside House Dracus. Delia is taken to an elegant room where she sleeps peacefully and awakens to being served delicious food. She is greeted by a towering man who calls himself “First” and explains that he is there to take her to Master Sun.

Master Sun explains that Delia is to become a member of the Amita K’un and that eight years ago an Oracle of Sharrak had said, “To you a child shall come; not frlesh of your flesh; but of your heart. She will be the harbinger of a new age for the Amita K’un.”

Master Sun shows her what he is capable of – what she too will be capable of. After three years, Delia finally is able to channel what she needs to become who she is destined to be. They partake in the Ceremony of Rebirth, where Delia sheds her old life and adopts her new one – and becomes Nightwind.
