The issue opens with Tarrus observing Ashikaga commanding his Bloodguard to bring him the hearts of the Amita K’un. He seems pleased and mentions that he will not intervene, and ruin the fun – especially since he has who are the finest warriors Anoria has ever seen.

Ashikaga demands that his Bloodguard leave Nightwind to him; but this makes him blind to the battle field and he’s struck by another member of the Amita K’un – but not put down. Meanwhile, Nightwind continues to fight other members of the Bloodguard, feeling something from the Key of Telku that she has in her possession, that they’d taken from the statue of Baal. (See Issue #5 for more) She realizes that her blood lust may not be her own; but rather influenced by the corruption coming from the Key of Telku. Her thoughts are cut short when she attacked by Ashikaga and seems as if this may be the end for her – an arrow strikes him, and when she looks – it’s the Soldiers of Baal who have finally caught up and cutting down anyone who stands in front of them. One of the Amita K’un calls for a retreat and to get to the horses and escape. Because the Soldiers of Baal wear heavy armor, allows the Amita K’un to get a lead – and First and Nightwind tell the other two Amita K’un to take their horses and go. First and Nightwind go into the Faenar River, where the Soldiers of Baal eventually catch up – and much to their dismay are pulled into the depths of the river; left to drown as their heavy armor sinks them – and without assistance to remove the armor will never stand in time before they drown.

Another interlude, where we see Tarrus watching all of this unfold, and agrees to sign the trade agreement with Kitya – and assures his imp, that this, in the end, will not be the great deal that Kitya believes it to be.

We shift to House Dracus at dawn, where Overlord Kitya has summoned his son, Kalkin, as well as Master Sun to announce his sentence of Mara – and explains, though Mara is a traitor, he is still of his flesh and can not bring himself to order his death – so he has decided to exile Mara instead. Kalkin is upset – but Master Sun calms him down.

Outside Laim, Tarrus meets with the Amita K’un and exchange the key for the trade agreement, but Nightwind feels there’s far more to this. Nightwind asks if Tarrus was watching them – if he knows the fate of the Bloodguard, and ideally, Ashikaga, who hopefully perished at the hands of the Soldiers of Baal. Tarrus admits, he only kept an eye on the Amita K’un and Nightwind specifically. The Amita K’un ride for three days back to House Dracus and deliver the trade agreement.

Elsewhere, there is a plot to break up the trade agreement that’s been made…

Back to House Dracus, Kalkin and several other soldiers, ride and take Mara to the far border, where he’s told to never come back – then Kalkin strikes him and cuts his cheek to mark him as the venomous traitor that he is. As Mara makes his way through the woods, he’s greeted by none other than Ashikaga sporting a wounded arm.
