After the defeat of the Gelatinous Cube, the party gained entrance into Ridge Crest, the party finds that the man hole that they used is guarded by a rogue. The overly friendly rogue introduces himself as Ferrus and explains that the city guards were lying about the infection. While there are some who are infected with an unknown disease, it is not as wide spread as the mayor makes it out to be. The real reasons for the gates to be sealed is because there is a mass murderer in Ridge Crest who the towns people have given the nickname of “Crimson” because of how violent the murders have been. While the murders initially began in Lower Ridge (the slums of Ridge Crest), the mayor was not concerned. When a few notable people of Mid Ridge (the middle class of Ridge Crest) were murdered, now the mayor was suddenly looking concerned. When people in High Ridge (the “rich people” of Ridge Crest) were murdered, he sealed the gates; for two reasons. First, the mayor claims, to prevent the murderer from escaping. Of course, the citizens also voiced, that means the murderer is trapped in the city walls with them. Most believe the Mayor hoped to avoid a scandal and capture the murderer before opening the gates to the public, since the trade route is now once again running, with the problem of the marauding goblins and vicious wolves put to rest.

The party asks for a place to go to wash up and recover (having just climbed through the sewers) and the rogue takes them to an abandoned building – or what appeared to be an abandoned building – but in truth was a rogue’s hide out and explained to that he could get them badges to access Mid Ridge and High Ridge, but that it would cost them. Paying the Rogue, Ferrus escorted them through the gates from Low Ridge to Mid Ridge and took them to the Red Raven Tavern and Inn, where the party got rooms. After refreshing themselves, the party came out to see several rogues rummaging through a store across the street. Moving to stop them, the party engaged in a fight and rather than kill the two rogues, subdued them and questioned them. They explained that a Half-Orc named Iron Tusk had stolen something from the locksmith and that the rest of the store was theirs to rummage through. The party learns that the Iron Tusk is in Lower Ridge by the docks. The party goes to investigate and discovers a Halfling Rogue who kept an eye on strangers and shouted a warning to Iron Tusk. Twig grabbed the Halfling and silenced her while the others pursued Iron Tusk across the various barges. Finally catching him, he reveals that he sold the key to a cleric of some kind who needed it to unlock some ancient tome.

Getting directions from Iron Tusk, the party made it’s way outside of Ridge Crest several hours, and found a temple that went into the ground. Moving into the temple, there was an overwhelming sense of evil. Fountains of blood, pools of blood, and the like decorated this forbidding, ancient temple. Moving down a cliff side, the party found themselves attacked by four blood covered skeletons, who did an immense amount of damage to the party, before finally being defeated.
