Growing up in Skytree, Dick, like most other High Elves, saw himself – like their forest homes, three hundred feet in the forest tops – above everyone else.
At a young age, Dick had been gazing out from the home of his parents – and high above the forest tree line, saw the world beyond the woods. While he was born with the innate magic most High Elves possessed, Dick hungered for more knowledge – more control over his magical abilities.
When he asks his parents about going to the Tower of the Magi, his parents refuse it, because other races are there – and their fear their son will be referred to as one of the “Grey.” (Grey Elves are Elves who choose to live among humans long ago). His parents gave (High Elf) logic as to why that would be a bad idea, and how it would contaminant his mind.
When speaking with his professor, a High Elf by the name of Aven Greenstone, the professor assured him that it was true, that humans – often corrupted by the sensation of magic – do indeed study in the Tower of the Magi; he went on to explain that the Tower of Magi was a neutral place where both good and evil studied; and that only Necromancy and Necromancers were forbidden from entering the Tower of Magi. While the High Elves focused on Magic that centered around nature, the Tower of Magi had a wider study of magic.
This was all that Dick had needed to hear. One night, he ran away from home, leaving everything he knew behind him, and eventually found a wizard that took him under his wing named, Greyfall. With Greyfall’s guidance, Dick was able to gain entrance to the Tower of Magi and learned to truly become a wizard.
When reports of the new continent surfaced, and that ancient temples and magical items were being recovered, Greyfall booked passage aboard the Wave Hammer for Dick who was eager to recover some of these magical items to study and bring back to the Tower of Magi.
