  • Aros – Lightfoot Halfling, Rogue
  • Galiena Erenaeth – Half Elf, Celestial Warlock / Druid
  • Baldur – Human, Pack Chain Warlock (Spear) / Paladin
    • Hellina Kaitlyn Deramu – Human NPC, Wererat

The party pauses and thinks about their situation; Galiena has burned most of her spell slots, as have Baldur. Galiena casts a Level 1 Cure Wounds on Aros, and gives him a good amount of health. Baldur touches himself, rubbing his belly noting he’s hungry, but uses Lay On Hands to give himself ten points of health.

Beyond the stone door inside the cave – they hear a commotion – but those sounds die down as the party tends to their wounds. As the party enters the cave; they can see primitive beds, tables, and piles of clutter everywhere. They notice to the left, there is a large metal door infused in stone; and on each side of the door is a massive statue, holding a spear in its hands, gazing into the room. It seems fairly demonic appearance – as if they were guardians to whatever is beyond the door.

Baldur approaches the statues and begins examining them – to see if there’s a lever or something that would trigger the statues to move and open the door. All of them try a number of things – including trying to move the statues – but they’re not successful. When Aros examines the door – he finds a lever, and gives it a pull – and the door begins to open – but at the same time – both statues suddenly become quite alive – revealing that they’re gargoyles!

Well, this should be fun…

During the fight, Kavium pulls out his spiritual weapon to help against the stone flesh of these enchanted gargoyles – he spiritual weapon, literally thrusting and chipping away at the gargoyles, proved to be far more effective than his own weapon.

Kavium’s Spiritual Weapon

By the time the final gargoyle falls – with Aros, having plunged Lycan Blade into it – and trying to use his body weight to slowly make himself descend down the gargoyle, cutting its stone body in half – the statue crumbles and falls – nearly falling on Galiena, but Kavium runs and shoves her out of the way – taking the hit, as the stone fragments pummel Kavium. Kavium spits out blood as he falls under the weight of the collapsed gargoyle.

Just as the battle against the last gargoyle seems to be coming to a close – in the doorway are two wereboars – with one of them leaping into combat, and the second one holding back. The party begins engaging with the wereboards – while the other wereboar who had escaped their previously (see last session) unlocks a stable pen inside the cave – releasing an incredibly disgusting creature.

The unusual creature – that they all recognize as a “trash monster” – these foul beasts, often used to devour trash and waste in major cities, locked in the sewers to devour the waste – were vicious and vicarious when it came to food – eating anything it could fit in its mouth – and battering to pieces, if it couldn’t – until it did fit in its mouth.

Galiena casts Armor of Agathys on herself, giving herself chilling armor – and the wereboar attempts to cut Galiena, but can’t seem to penetrate the armor and takes the cold damage for his actions – but does manage to gorge her, but the tusks doesn’t break through the armor. The party manages to finally take down the wereboar, and sees the “trash monster” slowly approaching, its tentacles lashing about wildly.

The “trash monster” is still lumbering along – and Baldur goes charging towards it – hearing the Dragon spirit in his spear about what a horrible idea it was – and that he appreciates Baldur’s heroics – but he needs to stop rushing monsters that have tentacles and tail like attacks. Aros can see that the wereboar has run further back – bolting around, yet another corner.

The others moves closer – and Baldur tries to spear it and critically misses it, while twirling the spear over his head, gashing Galiena across the cheek. The Otyugh manages to ensnare Baldur and begin pulling him towards its mouth. Baldur keeps his feet positioned against the creature’s slimy side, trying to prevent himself from being pulled into the creature’s mouth. Galiena shouts, “I apologize Baldur,” and releases a Witch Bolt that shocks the Otyugh to death – but since it still had Baldur in its tentacles, Baldur also takes some of the damage, and slumps to the floor.

The wereboar seeing the Otyugh defeated, retreats further back into the cave – and the party gives chase – and sees the exit out onto the path – but the wereboar does not get far before a horrible shriek fills the air – and a large shadow looms over the wereboar. A large bird like creature picks up the shrieking wereboar – whose screams suddenly go silent – and then the corpse of the wereboar, his chest ripped wide open comes crashing down on the path, then over the side, tumbling all the way down the mountain.

The party gets to see what it was…

“So that’s a peryton,” Baldur mutters.

Peryton, aka Deer Birds
