As the name implies, the Dragonborn are indeed born of dragons – but, rather through a rather unexpected result. As it would turn out, after the Dragons were freed from their magical prisons – and they re-entered the world – they discovered the world was a very different place. Many Dragons took to using Polymorph on themselves and walk the world in the guise of humans and elves – and some, eventually even fell in love with the mortals they engaged with. An unexpected result came of this; humans were giving birth to half-human / half-dragons, when these disguised Dragons mated with humans. And thus, the Dragonborn came into the world.
As one might surmise, there are different kinds of Dragonborn due to the wide variety of Dragons in the world. Each Dragonborn reflects their true parent’s nature – a Dragonborn born with a Silver Dragon parent would have silver scales, while one who was born of a Blue Dragon parent would have blue tinted scales. Each Dragonborn also has the same dragon breath ability from their parent.
