Dacys – Noble Dragonborn Monk (Amiee)
Urthez – Half-Orc Folk Hero Rogue (Charles)
Twig – Half-Orc Soldier Barbarian (Jake)
Zelona – Noble Half-Elf Paladin (Tam)
Kai – Tiefling Sage Bard (Sami)
Brolimir – Wood Elf Sage Druid (Matt) – Absent
- Brolimir comes down with Swamp Fever, rendering him bedridden.
- When the party checks up on him, he keeps whispering the word “Emereth”
- Zelona prays to her goddess and attempts to cure Brolimir of the Swamp Fever
- Instead she receives a vision of a Unicorn standing on the edge of a large body of swampy water
- But then the swampy water takes a new shape, turning into a massive, ancient Green Dragon, that then consumes the Unicorn
- Realizing that Brolimir can not be healed, the party begins to check out their latest stop, a roadhouse called The Mudhouse (appropriately named, being in the middle of a dense swamp)
- The party notices the owner of the Mudhouse has the only key to the storage/warehouse area where the valuables are kept
- Twig engages in some friendly dueling with other members of the caravan
- Dacys and Urthez both retire to their room
- Kai heads up to the tavern and begins playing music, getting friendly with the wide variety of people
- She notices that the kitchen is frantic with the cook looking as if he’s not slept for days
- She sends her fairy dragon to scout the area and it eventually returns with news of several “human-like figures with green skin” in the swamp not too far away
- Fearing an attack, they go up to the kitchen to discuss their plans, where again, they see the cook fatigued
- He explains, after being called over, that he’s not gotten a good night’s sleep for the last few nights, since the caravans arrived
- Probed further he explains he hears a sound; and the party looks in the back kitchen and notice that his room sits over where the warehouse would be
- Zelona asks for guidance from her goddess; and gets a vision of a long, black tunnel, then a massive castle (that she’s never seen before)
- Twig buys the cook a drink of the heaviest alcohol content, and the exhausted cook collapses within a few moments
- Twig goes back and begins cooking the food poorly, so those that eat it get food poisoning
- Heading down to the warehouse, they offer the two guards food, who then get sick
- With them out of the way, Urthez picks the lock to the warehouse
- Inside they see several crates as they expect; but then notice a small room that is locked within the warehouse
- Picking that lock, they find several crates, most which belong to the suspected cultist members; including the mysterious vase with runes that emanates great power and evil
- The party tries to find a way to get the vase and find that it’s protected by numerous traps; and disarm them; but find the vase virtually impossible to move, as if it were magically weighed down
- Hearing a scratching sound, similar to what the cook described coming from within the warehouse the party draws their weapons
- They see one of the crates inside move and several lizard-men enter the storage room
- One of them, with more of a gray scale tone, rather than green, notices the symbol on Zelona’s chest and realizes that they’re not members of the cult, but doesn’t seem bothered
- He wears a ring similar to the one worn by Kai
- He explains that the cult has them move the valuables underground to a castle quite a distance away
- He also explains that he does not like serving the cult
- He asks the party to help him move the crates, and he can help them
- He uses a magical gesture on the crate with the vase to list and move it along with several items
- The cave is small, long, and extremely humid; and they carry the items for a long distance, until their arms and legs and tired
- They emerge from a stone used to cover the other entrance, and a castle can be seen in the far distance
- The lizard-man introduces himself as Greyscale, and says that his people were forced to work for the cultists. He goes on to say his people were at war with the bullywogs, until their leader murdered the lizard-people’s leader.
- He asks the party to pretend to be mercenaries and offers a veil to cover Zelona’s symbol on her chest, as well as Dacy’s coloring (since her skin tone is silver, that of the metallic dragons – the sworn enemies of the chromatic dragons)
- He also asks that if the party finds – or can hunt down – the bullywog leader/shaman and kill him, the lizard-men will feel restored and continue their war with their hated enemies. He explains that the leader of the Bullywogs can easily be spotted by wearing the head of the lizard-men leader on his own head, like a crown.
- The party agrees and makes their way to the castle which is still several hours away through the swamp
- When the party arrives, they act as if they are mercenaries, cruising through several of the rooms. In the forge, they discover several Lizard-men attempting to silently make weapons to use against the bullywogs and discover that the castle is split – there is Rezmir who is the leader (and sides with the bullywogs, because they’re easy to manipulate), but an elf named Dalamark who is more civil (and sides with the lizard-men, perhaps because they are; though primitive by all means; they are civil… or because Rezmir does not like them and suspects they’re up to something).
- They ask these lizard-men where the leader of the bullywogs can be found, and they explain he’s below the castle
- While searching they find a chapel dedicated to Tyhamat and Urthez finds what appears to be a magical, poisonous dagger in the mouth of the black dragon statue
- The party moves through the castle, and after a brief encounter with an Ogyht, the party found the passive that led beneath the castle. Below, it is – what was once, by appearances a dungeon of some kind; now flooded with new walls formed by nature.
- Exploring through here the party finds a mysterious room full of mist and chilling cold; and below finally notice the floor has runes and some form of scrying window that shows a large, frost covered mountain and a lodge
- Unable to see how to activate it, the party moves on and finds the leader of the bullywogs and kills him and his body guards, taking the head of the lizard-man to show that he has been defeated. The party, winded and wounded takes a brief rest in this room, that once served as a room of worship to Sarenthar, the god of trolls.
