Khem Lodar was home to the Hill Dwarves who had left the mountains, generations ago, tired of the endless conflict with the Drow Elves and the Duergar Dwarves. Over the generation, most of the Dwarves had made Khem Lodar (‘home in the small mountain’) their home. However, the Hill Dwarves still considered the Mountain Dwarves of Khem Lauhar (‘home in the stone’) their cousins and as such, many Hill Dwarves offered their services to fight the darkness brought on by the Drow and the Duergar.
One such Hill Dwarf was a stout dwarf named ExLax (‘the land I am free’) who was instinctively good at using the terrain to help ambush the Drow and the Duergar and help turn the battle. ExLax had been a natural outdoorsman, feeling at home in the wild. However, the Duergar had grown wise to some of the ambushes that ExLax had been known for, and in turn, sacrificed a few Duergar – and launched a larger scale attack from behind ExLax and the others he’d led. The trap sprung by the Duergar left several Dwarves dead or critically wounded, and ExLax was one of the few who had managed to escape from the assault. He had always felt that this mistake had cost the lives of Dwarves he’d known and could not shake the images or silence the screams of his friends and fellow soldiers.
Needing to get away, ExLax left Khem Lodar to start his life anew, hoping that if he removed himself from home he would stop seeing the faces of those he knew who looked at him. He joined a small adventuring party that was speaking of treasures and relics being found on a new continent – and while the idea of these expensive relics being found interested him – the idea of a new life on a new continent interested him more. He traveled with the band of adventurers, arriving in Moontide Port, where he booked passage aboard the Alpha Dawn, heading for whatever may await him in the future…
