- The party, chasing Rezmer comes to a small village called Pern’s Landing, late at night
- They notice that there are an abundance of wagons near one of the stables; obviously numbering more than the amount of citizens in this small lodging village
- Stealthily moving through the village of Pern’s Landing, Urthez locates the tavern and notices most of the members inside the tavern seem to be merry and celebrating; but most of them are also wearing cult robes.
- A gnome inside spots Urthez and sends him a telepathic message
- Urthez steps inside, still wearing the Cult robes as a disguise and sees that a large human has a bard prisoner, forcing him to play music
- Back at the edge of town, Gailon grows impatient with waiting and convinces the others to go with him and scout the small village to see where Urthez has gotten off to
- They spot the tavern and see a cook exit through the back and discard rotten meat into a pile before going back inside. Gailon and the others step through the back which leads to the kitchen in the tavern and engage in a conversation with the cook, deceiving him that they’re cult members just coming in from the cold.
- When they step into the tavern, the large number of cultists coming in from the kitchen draws the attention of the large human keeping the bard prisoner
- The large human introduces himself as Captain Riverfell, Lord and Master of this village – and as he examines them he realizes he doesn’t recognize any of them
- A fight breaks out and eventually Captain Riverfell and several of the intoxicated cultists are killed
- An executive order on Captain Riverfell’s body mentions the execution orders for an Ogre that killed dozens of cult members during a riot in Kingshill Landing
- Twig realizes that the execution order is for Ball, the Ogre, whom he had become fast friends with during a fighting competition
- The bard explains that there’s prisoners below the tavern, kept there under a panel in the kitchen, which explains the abundance of wagons
- Dacys explains that she will help ensure these people find sanctuary
- Twig recommends bringing them to Kingshill Landing, since that’s where he’s headed anyway to stop the execution of Ball
- Dacys agrees, and she and Twig part ways the following morning, escorting the liberated prisoners.
- The gnome who was in the tavern introduces herself as Benjii, and agrees to go with the party, seeking knowledge about some “Sacred Stones” that fell from the heavens
- One of the actual villagers of Pern’s Landing stops Zelona and says that she looks familiar and comes to realize he’s met Zelona’s mother a few years ago; and she had left behind her breast plate, which he then gave to Zelona.
- The man, Kassidy Barrelside tells the party that the cult has been bringing shipments to the nearby castle and that the castle leaves and comes back typically about every 4 days; and should be leaving soon.
- The party makes their way to the castle under the guise of cultists and get inside.
- Inside the party splits on what they’re doing – while some try to pry stones out of magical guardians, others investigate barracks and trigger an alarm; being too obvious as to not just being cultists
- They finally come back together and begin to investigate the inner castle area; where they meet a Stone Giant who is gazing into a cauldron
- The Stone Giant introduces himself as Wiglof and explains he’s the caretaker of the castle and also uses the cauldron to see if their next destination (which he also tells them is a place called Northstone) is safe.
- The party asks about Rezmer and Wiglof tells them that his room is just on the other side of his.
- The party thanks Wiglof and goes into Rezmer’s room; however as soon as Urthez steps in, he finds that the rug is alive and attacks him. The party tries to free him, fearful that they’d cut Urthez, the light the rug on fire which releases him but then burns the room.
- They do recover a chest and some treasure from it, but then leave the chest on the floor.
- A young adult white dragon appeared, with a rider on it (though the rider was not visible) and that’s when the castle lifted up and began to take off
- The party moved upstairs and entered a room that was full of mirrors that seemed to move slowly so it always captured the light – and ended up on a globe that was white and glowing. Gailon threw his cloak over the orb and it halted the castle.
- This drew the immediate attention (and ire) of the white dragon who flew down from it’s perch and peered inside the many windowed room and saw the party inside
- The party quickly apologized and claimed to be cleaning the orb and removed the cloak so that the castle would continue to move
- A Cloud Giant named Blagothkus appeared to check what was happening with his castle. Seeing the party and believing them to be cultists he told them to go back down to the courtyard on the main floor.
- The party found another room – blocked by see through ice – of a large, 30 foot coffin – which was clear a Cloud Giant’s coffin.
- Zelona could feel a powerful undead somewhere near by as the party left the control room and entered a long, dark hall, where the darkness and cold seemed unnatural and pressed forward
- Kai realized that she’d heard stories of a vampire named Shiela Varen – who had been turned centuries ago by Prince Darkmoon. (See the previous campaign notes as well as the Vampire section of Monsters for more about Prince Valarious Darkmoon).
- The party kicked down the door and engaged in combat; but Shiela Varena was not alone; she had two vampire spawns as guardians. The party was not doing well, so several opted for trying to bust out the window covers, which they finally did; that killed the spawns, but Shiela was able to escape, being more powerful – leaving her current whereabouts unknown.
- The party then heard a woman’s voice saying, “Come to my tomb.”
- The party went to the Cloud Giant’s tomb and found the ice door was closed. Upon stepping inside the room, the ice door rose again and a disembodied voice told the party that she sensed goodness in them (unlike the cultists) and that they must convince her husband that what he’s doing is wrong.
- She explains that Blagothkus is aligning with the Dragons to bring back Tyhamat because if she comes back into the world – the giants will have to come together again and battle the dragons to drive them back, as they did eons ago. He believes that the giants have become too complacent because the dragons have been back in the world for years now and none of the giants have raised a finger – some have even aligned with them.
- But Blagothkus seems to fail to realize that Tyhamat back in the world would be a catastrophe.
- She has asked the party to find a way to convince him to abandon his plan.
