The Song Of Adventure.

Brolimir joined the rest before they left the party, explaining how he had seen the fight and done what he could with his magic to ensure that the Hobgoblin bounty hunters were driven off. Together they made their way towards Moontide Port, stopping in Guardstone to gather some supplies. It was there, in the Lion’s Den Tavern, that a young Tiefling caught their eye. She was exceptional with a Lute. The unusual gathering of two Half-Orcs, a Dragonborn and a Half-Elf had certainly caught her eye. Not a single one of them was a “pure breed” of any kind. (Two were half orc, one was half dragon, the other was half elf) – as a half demon herself, this unusual gathering appealed to her. After her performance, she approached them and had asked them where they were going. As it turned out, they were all headed for Moontide Port, to book passage to the new lands. She introduced herself as Kai, and imposed herself upon them, by telling them great stories she had heard – and some of which, she supposedly took part of. The others all agreed, that she would be useful, and certainly fit this misfit team.

The Origin of Kai.

Kai, Born of the Demon.

Kai’s origin begins with her mother and the pact she made with a demon. In an attempt to save her ailing husband, Kai’s mother, a human woman named Alayna, made a pact with a demon. The demon promised to give her the power to save her dying husband from death; and the cost of her next child, which would be demon born. The demon sought to use the child’s body as a means of opening a passage to the Prime Material Plane.

Preforming the dark pact that allowed Alayna to absorb the dark magic into herself, for which she used to save her dying husband, a human named Berel. That same magic impregnated her with the demon’s seed. When it came time to sacrifice the child, that would allow the demon – Belaros – to enter the world, Alayna could not bring herself to kill the infant Tiefling. Alayna explained this to her husband, knowing the consequence, and her husband explained that he understood; he had led a long and glorious life, and found the love of his life, and had been blessed to be so loved by her. He preferred that his beautiful wife not have the blood of an innocent – even a Tiefling – on her hands. Belaros, furious, broke the spell that allowed Berel to live – sending him to his death. Alayna fled, knowing that Belaros would do everything he could to make Alayna’s life a literal, living hell.

For years, Belaros plagued Alyana’s dreams, filling them with endless nightmares and visions of the horrible things he was doing to her late husband, Berel. Though she knew it was nothing more than lies that Belaros showed her in her dreams; for her husband was a pure and good person, it still made her nights impossible to endure. Fearful that her daughter, whom she named Kai, would grow up with the darker influences of Belaros, Alayna taught her daughter to appreciate music, and sing songs of positivity. But even then, Alayna could see that her daughter had a streak of mischief in her – sometimes stealing things for the sake of stealing them and not needing them.

Alayna found sanctuary among a traveling band of Warlocks, who like her, had made deals with demons to learn magic. The Warlocks were able to assist Alayna in protecting her mind from the dark influences of Belaros, and she finally found peaceful sleep. She passed away of old age, and which point Kai left the Warlocks, having no interest in learning magic, and sought to explore the world on her own – using her skills of music – and when needed, the occasional pick pocket to pay for a meal here and there – when playing her music did not pull in enough money.
