Hartmut was orphaned at a young age. No one has any information about his parents as he was delivered to the orphanage too young for him to remember.

He was not left with any belongings about his family other than a leather medallion that belonged to his family. The signage has long worn off and no longer holds clues left that can be used to determine his lineage.

His orphanage on the Tawaim was eventually closed due to various issues. Upon closing a monk of the Old Order found Hartmut sleeping in the abandoned building and took him to the Old Order monastery close by.

He became quick friends with another orphan found on the monastery steps by the name of Arhian Vos. After growing up together it was determined that the duo would be sent to the new world to investigate rumors of ancient relics that interested the Old Order.
