Born Into Light.
Zelona was a young, female Half-Elf, born into royalty – though her life was much more complex, due to her heritage. Her father, a King named Redsun, had had an affair with the wife of an Elven Senator, there on trade negotiations. When Zelona’s mother, Arella, discovered she was pregnant, she had believed it had been a child with her husband – never knowing that her husband was, unfortunately, unable to bear the seed to get her pregnant. When Zelona was born, Arella was shunned by her people. She returned to King Redsun, and pleaded that he take the child. Arella explained what had happened, and that she could never provide for the child – for she was an outcast among all elves, for her adultery and would now live her life as such. King Redsun offered her a place in his castle, much to the fury of his own wife, but Arella declined, knowing the tensions it would create. Zelona was raised by her father with loving support, though King Redsun’s wife bore no love for Zelona. When Zelona was young, she was drawn to the Church to question the Gathered why she was the way she was – her mother shunned, her father loving, and her father’s wife hating her. One of King Redsun’s Knights took Zelona under his wing and began to teach her how to defend herself. As she grew, her interest in both the Gathered and becoming a Knight, grew until she was one day anointed as a Paladin – one of the Holy Warriors of King Redsun. Seeking to find out what became of her true mother, Zelona discovered, through the resources provided to her by King Redsun’s fortune, that her mother had ventured to the newly discovered lands, in an attempt to begin her life anew. Zelona took it upon herself to travel to Moontide Port to book passage. In Guardstone, she had meet a Tiefling by the name of Kai. Kai introduced Zelona to the others she had recently met – and couldn’t help but muse at the fact, that indeed – none of them were “pure breeds.”
Together, they ventured to Moontide Port, and booked passage on The Sea’s Wrath.
The Origin of Zelona.
Zelona, Called By The Gods.
King Redsun was an honorable man, and a just king. Though he loved his wife dearly, there had been an Elven Senator by the name of Arella, sent from the Wildthorn Woods, to act as an ambassador for her people in hopes of establishing a trading route between the humans and the elves. Though he had never intended to have an affair, he was drawn to Arella. The two had spent many days and nights together, working on trade agreements, but for King Redsun, it was an excuse to be by this exotic woman.
One night, during their talks, King Redsun leaned forward and kissed Arella; and while she initially pulled back, she too had been curious about this kind and just human, who sought to make amends and help the Elves. Their one night of passion resulted in Arella becoming pregnant. Among her people, everyone rejoiced, for Arella’s husband, Larus, had long sought to have a child with Arella, and was beginning to believe he was cursed to never see his bloodline continue.
When Zelona was born, everyone was shocked to see that the young child bore many of the markings of a human, with her rounded eyes and slightly rounded ears. Arella realized that the daughter she bore was not from her husband’s seed, but from King Redsun. Her people, who once rejoiced, now shunned her and sought to banish her for her infidelity.
Arella fled one night, with her infant child and returned to King Redsun, not knowing where else to turn. She explained what happened and pled with King Redsun to take her daughter, Zelona. King Redsun, as someone who still cared deeply for Arella, saw his eyes in their daughter, and knew that he could not turn her away. Queen Jenfura was furious and gave Zelona very little love and attention, even barking at servants who gave the half-elf infant too much attention.
Zelona’s childhood was a difficult one, for her step mother did all that she could to make it so.
Unable to make any friends, due to Queen Jenfura’s interference, King Redsun had Zelona train with the Knights, who followed the King faithfully, so that the Queen had no influence over Zelona. There, she trained with the Knights and it was there, one night she heard a call. She believed she had taken one too many hits, or that perhaps she was dreaming – but the demigod, Valingard – the god of honor – called upon her. Despite her rough childhood, she never let it get to her – and always acted in honor – and this captured the attention of Valingard, who called upon her to become one of his holy warriors – a Paladin of Justice and Honor.
Now old enough, Zelona moved out, with the blessing of her father to seek out her true mother, Arella, and bring justice and honor to the world.
