- Baldur awakens and heads down into the Drunken Dragon where he sees Ramgor and Annie there, and they are preparing to head back to Felhorn
- Baldur asks Ramgor if he could borrow Walter (Ramgor’s white horse) – and Walter seems very excited to go on yet another “adventure” with Baldur
- Ramgor, seeing Walter’s reaction, smiles handsomely and says, “I could not stop Walter if I tried. Go with him, Walter. He knows his way back if you two separate. Although he will undoubtedly stop here in Greenhaven and check if the apples are back in season. He does love their apples.”
- He looked at Baldur, “Though, this time it will cost to ride Walter,” Ramgor says as he hands the reigns to Baldur. “You must tell Galiena I think of her often and I worry.”
- Baldur nods, “Deal. When I find her, I will tell her that. I need to have a word with the halfling, Aros.” (See Session 34 as to why)
- Baldur began tracking Aros, Kavium and Galiena – he followed them along the path – then they veered into the woods – he followed their tracks to a large mushroom filled clearing. He dismounted and saw the corpse of the ghast. Followed their tracks from there, riding on Walter once again. It’d taken several hours, but he was getting closer.
- An hour later, inside Caith Mathan’s cave, Aros heard the heavy footfalls of a horse riding hard and quickly left the cave and leapt into the bushes; at first he thought a ghost horse was riding towards them but quickly realized it was a horse he immediately recognized as Walter and knew it had to be Baldur who was riding Walter
- Baldur threw a rock off to the side to distract Baldur, however, Baldur failed to notice it (Natural 1) but Walter noticed and began to examine the bush to which Baldur muttered, “Get your head back in the game, Walter. We are going to that cave.”
- Baldur rides up to the cave, slides off Walter and looks inside where he sees Galiena sitting next to Kavium, as well as a large human he doesn’t know, and a female elf who looks pretty injured that he also doesn’t know – but he doesn’t see Aros
- “Where’s Aros?” Baldur asks
- Galiena looks around, “He was just in here a moment ago.”
- “Well, he ruined my vacation with Kaitlyn,” Baldur growls, recalling the snow around him. “Also, he caused extensive water damage to the room when the snow melted.”
- “Remember when you decided to pretend to be me, and now has me on a wanted poster,” Galiena growled. “It sucks when things go wrong, doesn’t it?”
- Baldur mutters, “Well, this isn’t a fight with you. This is between me and Aros. You and I can fight later.” He looks, “Well, are you going to introduce me to your new friends?”
- Caith Mathan stands and introduces himself and gestures to the Eladrin and explains that her name is Celan Gradon
- Caith explains how they’ve not really had a chance to talk to her since she’s in such a weakened state; but how her body seemed to reflect the seaons
- Baldur smirks, “I get that. Mine’s made for summer.” As he flexes.
- Galiena chuckles, “And for winter, apparently.”
- Baldur’s eyes narrow as he stares at Galiena. “That was Aros’ doing.”
- Caith Mathan fills Baldur in one the events that have happened, as far as he knows it; from going to the field that Celan had been trapped in; fighting the magic armor, defeating it; and Galiena using a spell from a dead wizard she’d found; and bringing Celan to his cave. She’s spoken here and there, but has mostly been drifting in and out of consciousness
- Celan suddenly sits up and asks, “Where am I?”
- Baldur who is right in front of her smiles, “I just shook you gently and snapped you out of your coma and rescued you.”
- Galiena leaps up, glad to see Celan more responsive and shoves Baldur aside. “No, no! Do not listen to him.”
- Aros suddenly walks in and drags in a dead boar. “I brought dinner.”
- Galiena looks at Aros, “Where have you been?”
- Baldur turns to face Aros, “We need to discuss something. Pranks are one thing, frozen balls is another.” Aros smiles and shrugs. “You saw my ass. You saw it nice and good. Remember my ass in your dreams.”
- Aros apologizes, “I’m sorry. I saw the scratches from before. Wasn’t sure if you were into that. Was just trying to cool the situation down.”
- Baldur pauses, “Fine. I get it. It’s the thought that counts.” Baldur leans in and helps Aros pull the boar in; but discovers the hard ride on Walter to find the others has worn him out as well. Galiena stands and shoves them aside and drags the boar in herself. Kavium, who is still sitting next to where she’d been sitting; enjoys the view as she bends over to pull the boar in, and is further flustered pleasurably, by the display of her strength
- Caith Mathan begins cutting at the boar
- Celan explains that she’s an Eladrin
- As she explains, it’s clear Baldur, Aros and Galiena have never heard of what an “Eladrin” is…
- Celan Gradon goes on to explain – seeing the puzzled expressions of her rescuers – that the Eladrin were some of the first elves of the world, who had discovered a portal through use of magic to a different realm known as the Feywild – and when they entered it, they were greeted by the powerful sense of magic, and the beauty of the Feywild; and believed, they’d achieved paradise. As such, being exposed to the continued magics of the Feywild, the Elves who became known as the Eladrin (in ancient elvish meaning ‘Bound To Nature’), they indeed bound themselves to nature in ways they never could before – and learned how the trees and plants interact with the seasons, and soon, too also learned to channel the various seasons – originally, magically – but eventually become a part of their natural abilities.
- Celan goes on to explain, but where there is beauty and life, there is always the other side; and the Feywild contained a darker side – a side that was home to things such as mystical trolls. The Eladrin learned that there were many trolls who were “blessed by the dark gods Sarenthar (god of trolls) and Skortavrian (god of poison) – which created the Rot Troll and the Venom Troll – whose sole purpose was to wreak havoc, disease, death, and poison. Celan chased two of them to Eagle Rock, where her pursuit was stopped due to the trap sprung on her by the wizard Marius Silverstone.
- She explains that the Rot Troll has a disease, so direct contact can expose a person to the disease, who then becomes a carrier; while the Venom Troll, leaves a trail of toxic venom everywhere it goes – and it runs deep into the soil killing plants and trees for generations; and any who touch it may also get the toxin splashed on them and it can be very dangerous. She’d hoped to put a stop to them, but she expended so much effort battling Marius from actually draining her magical ability that she’s managed to cripple herself.
- She looks to Kavium, Galiena, Baldur and Aros and asks for their help tracking down the trolls and putting them down
- The party agrees; and Galiena mentions she’s got a fairy dragon named Dearbhán whom she’s sure would love to meet Celan, and see someone from it’s home in the Feywild; and Celan assures her she would be equally happy to meet Dearbhán
- While sitting with Celan, she mentions that the one thing that these trolls fear is fire; and she explains that the venom troll is completely immune to poison, as that’s the very core of the troll’s essence; she also mentions be very cautious standing too close to either of them; as they can emit their toxins; and the venom troll has the ability to breathe the poison from it’s gut; and one final note, the venom troll regenerates health, however, the rot troll does not regenerate due to its condition
- Heading in the general direction that Celan tells them to go; Kavium, Galiena, Baldur and Aros begin looking for evidence of these trolls – and Galiena quickly picks up on the track and is quickly able to see both sets of tracks – however, the two trolls separate, undoubtedly knowing they’re being tracked (presumably by Celan herself). The party decides to follow the Venom troll as his path is much easier to find with the green toxin emanating from his skin and landing on the ground
- It is not too much longer before they’re greeted with the visage of the bulbous venom troll; and it’s a site none of them were prepared to see
- Aros quietly unloads his arrow – and lights it on Darko – and fires at the troll, getting his Assassination ability
- As combat starts, Baldur and Aros are very ready, while Galiena is taken aback by the horrible appearance of the venom troll
- As combat starts, Aros fires off another shot that hits, but the follow up misses; while Baldur mutters his Vow of Enmity at the troll then casts Hex on it. Both of Baldur’s lunges with the spear however miss; he can hear Khor’taur‘s voice explain how vile the troll is; Baldur however manages to use the butt-end of the spear to hit the troll
- However, upon impact, Baldur is splashed by the troll’s venomous toxins that manage to damage him
- Darko tries to fire at the venom troll; however, Baldur’s reaction to being sprayed by the venom makes Baldur move into the very area that Darko was firing (Darko got a Critical Fail) and so while spewing the venom out of his mouth and stumbling about, Baldur proceeds to get hit with fire blast from the back for minimal damage, as he shoots a frustrated look at Darko between spitting. Darko’s next fire ray manages to hit however.
- Kavium rushes up and cleaves into the troll, driving his magical axe into it, just as Baldur’s shouting a warning; but it’s too late – Kavium’s axe cuts deep – and the troll reacts by spraying its lethal venom all around him, hitting both Kavium and Baldur for heavy damage
- The venom troll tries to claw at Baldur, and almost hits him – but Baldur’s able to cast Shield to deflect the claw attacks
- Aros notices that each time the Venom Troll is taking physical damage, it spews venom; so he decides to hold off on his attack – and holds, waiting to see of Baldur, who is not looking good, gets away from the Venom Troll
- Baldur tries to step away, and the Venom Troll tries to attack Baldur, but misses as Baldur steps back and gets out of its range – and Baldur casts Toll of the Dead – which lands, because the troll can’t resist
- Darko fires the fire beam – one hits, one misses – the hit splashes more venom on Kavium who is still standing next to the troll. Kavium growls to keep hitting it, and he will heal himself from the damage if it gets bad
- Kavium cleaves again and misses once, and hits the second time, taking another spray of venom and more damage; this time it’s enough to make Kavium begin to visibly bleed. He refuses to step away, concerned this beast could eventually go for Galiena. Despite his over the top advances, he genuinely cares for her
- Aros fires a shot and misses; and the troll swings at Kavium, one misses; the other critically misses, allowing the troll to claw itself
- As the battle progresses, Baldur lands another Toll of the Dead – and Kavium looks on in horror, still engaged in combat as the troll’s skin begins to violently bubble – and Kavium dives out of the way as the troll’s body explodes with venom everywhere
- Kavium looks up – bloodied, and shakes his head, “That may have been the worse thing I’ve ever seen… and fought. And I’ve seen some gross things.” The party begins healing up and wondering what their next action should be – rest or track the Rot Troll. They know if they rest – that gives the Rot Troll a lot of room to keep moving. They know they need to keep tracking the troll.
- Back tracking, they go back to where the trolls had split – however, they lose sight of the Rot Troll’s tracks after a short while – and while standing out in a field – Aros is standing in the field as Galiena, Kavium and Baldur hit the ground as they see something in the air flying – and as they seem to be flying above – they suddenly veer and turn – heading for the party – but it becomes clear they’ve spotted him
- The creatures – known as Spined Devils – seem to be focused on Aros, despite every effort Aros makes to try and hide – these creatures manage to keep their eye – and tail spikes on Aros; the fight goes on for quite some time, and Aros is left very, very, bloody, by the time the battle is done
- The heroes stand around the dead Spined Devils and Kavium says, “This is work from a dark mage. I suspect Lord Brenmoon may have sent these beasts in search of Galiena, or any who have weapons and armor.”
