Calliope Laurelleaf – Halfling Bard

The story of Calliope Laurelleaf is one that other bards sing sad songs about. Calliope Laurelleaf is a beautiful halfling who had fallen in love with one of her tribesmen; a young halfling named Moor Tallstone. The two seemed to be destined for love, as he was considered the most handsome halfling in the tribe. People spoke of their marriage and the children they would have; and how gorgeous the children would be.

But fate is cruel when it forges the sorrow filled songs of a bard; and on the night of their marriage – a celebrate that lasts several nights, before the marriage is completed – a band of orcs from an organization called The Broken Hand raided the Hills of Hollowstone and proceeded to murder and kill any and every halfling they came across. Moor Tallstone stood before the orcs when they reached him and he stood between them and Calliope, refusing to budge. The orcs cut him down and Calliope watched Moor die right before her. The orc raised his sword ready to kill Calliope, but instead, smiled and left her sitting in a pool of her lover’s blood.

So stricken by grief, Calliope Laurelleaf took her journal, where she had kept intricate notes of every moment she spent with Moor Tallstone and took to the road. She met a bard who taught her that music was a way to express sorrow from the soul that helps heal the wounds. Seeking to escape the memories of her former home, Calliope Laurelleaf booked a passage aboard the “Starjammer” and sailed for the new continent that so many seemed to be speaking of…
