The chill of winter and snow has fallen across the land. King Saric’s guards who had traveled with Omen, tell him about the Doppelganger, and what it had said. When King Saric summons the party, he questions why he was not informed by them about the Doppelganger. Party explains that they were looking into it, and not sure who to trust at the time. King Saric shows his disappointment in not being trusted by the party, but tells them he has another mission for them, should they trust him.

  • King Saric explains that there’s a series of towers along a small mountain/hill side that use lights and mirrors to communicate more effectively and quickly. And normally, whether there’s “news” or not, the towers communicate a message of “All Clear.” It has been two weeks since he’s gotten a message from the tower closest to Guardstone, which is Greystone. He requests the party head towards Greystone and see what the problem might be.
  • Venturing towards Greystone, the party finds the entire town burning, and surrounded by the very same Orcs they had seen marching just weeks before, headed in the direction of Greystone.
  • The party finds some survivors, who explain that the Orcs came and began burning down the town, when they found that a message had not yet reached Greystone. The survivors explained that a small band of orcs moved eastward, towards Daggerpoint, which is the location of the tower before Greystone, apparently looking for a specific message (or looking to stop a specific message). They also mention there’s a small hamlet (not even a town) called Wyvern’s Nest between Greystone and Daggerpoint. The small band of orcs would avoid it no doubt, since they seemed to be more of a strike force, than an army.
  • Several of the party members give those few survivors blankets to keep them warm as the survivors make their way towards Guardstone.
  • While on their way to the Wyvern’s Nest, camping in the chilling snowy hills, the party finds itself attacked by a Yeti, having come down from the mountains looking for food to hunt; as well as a Hill Giant, shortly after. The party manages to defeat both (with a little bit of trouble and some damage to their supplies).
  • The party makes some contact and gathers rumors as to why the lights on the towers stopped; the rumors vary from orcs, lizardmen, to even the undead. Without resting, the party ventures on to Daggerpoint.
  • At Daggerpoint, the party finds themselves ambushed by brigands, who work for the orcs. After defeating the brigands, the party makes their way up the tower, and finds the former occupants of the tower all slain. Finally reaching the top, they find several Orc Champions as well as the Orc Priest, Gra’mar. Fleeing down the stairs, the party fights the Orc Champions in the hall and manages to take them down, just as Gra’mar shows up. Capable of using magic as an evil priest, Gra’mar seizes command of Argo’s mind and forces him to attack the party.
  • The party manages to defeat and kill Gra’mar, freeing Argo’s mind (after Argo has severely wounded Bodrag).
  • The party decides to camp in the tower for the night and recover.
