- Gunthar – Tiefling Wizard
- Bergeoff Raethran – Elf Rogue
- Aram Raethran – Elf Warrior
- Kavax WildHammer – Dwarf Barbarian
- Marick Tallyfoot – Halfling Cleric (NPC)
- Aboard the ship The Sun Chaser, commanded by the young female halfling, Ellana Skygreen, who wore a brown tricorn hat with a red feather through it (Ellana claims it comes from a griffon)…
- Gunthar was a young, aspiring wizard headed to the new continent of Vareen to uncover the magic that has been discovered there and increase his own knowledge and power. With his red skin and small, goat like horns, his appearance as a Tiefling was obvious.
- Bergeoff was an elf rogue, whose black hair and shorter stature marked him as a unique looking elf. Though his dark hair and shorter stature allowed him to blend into the shadows quite nicely. He traveled with his brother, Aram.
- Aram, unlike his brother, was a tall, slender elf, with blond hair. Though thin, like an elf, the sword at his side marked him as a warrior. Aram and Bergeoff were on their way to Vareen because there’d been rumors that the goddess of the elves, Nifika, had performed some great magical feat; and the stories they were hearing varied; so now they were off to find the truth.
- Kavax WildHammer was a dwarven barbarian, whose leathery skin, showed he’d seen much sun, unlike the common dwarf who lived underground. Kavax had always been out there to prove he was the best at what he did – and that was fight. This new continent yielded new challenges and unique monsters not seen on the main continent of Tawaim, and Kavax was looking for a new challenge.
- The ship had a wide variety of people aboard; some were clearly criminals (either escaping their past in Tawaim or perhaps seeking new fortunes in Vareen) as well as the rich (who were indeed seeking new fortunes in Vareen). The continent of Vareen was yielding untold treasures from people returning from the continent, plundering its goods, and many were now seeking to do the same.
- As the ship sailed across the calm sea, the sun sets on the horizon; dark clouds form
- It is Aram and Kavax who notice that the storm is not natural – and draw attention to Gunthar who manages to see five figures out in the darkened waters – their upper torsos human-like, however, their bottom torsos almost squid or octopus-like. He watched their hands closely and shouted, “They’re summoning something!”
- The seas turned more turbulent and the skies continued to darken; clouds covered any stars, the moon vanished behind a cloak of shadow. As the party tried desperately to stop these Kraken Priests, it was already too late – as the sea began to boil and large Kraken tentacles wrapped around the ship! The wood of the vessel quickly began to buckle as the tentacles tightened
- Kavax, realizing the ship was going down, jumped overboard; followed by Gunthar. Bergeoff continued to fire his bow at the Kraken priests in an effort to stop them, landing a critical hit, which killed one of them. Aram, seeing everyone leaping overboard, shoved his brother, Bergeoff overboard as well. As Bergeoff landed in the water, the ship snapped and the mast fell directly upon Bergeoff (critical fail on the check). It was Kavax who was able to swim in the darkened waters and recover Bergeoff.
- Each of them, along with many others who had jumped from the boat, clung to the shattered remains of the ship, as it the remainder of the ship snapped in half and quickly vanished beneath the darkened seas.
- The party was adrift for four days, their food they had spoiled, drinking sea water when they had to, before each of them eventually lost consciousness and awoke on an island. It was there, they met Marick Tallyfoot, a halfling cleric who had said that he pulled them together – none of the others who washed ashore seemed to have survived the ordeal.
- Looking around, they appeared to be on a remote, tropical island, with a dense jungle in front of them and in the center of this island stood a massive mountain.

- Aram searched the remains of those who had washed ashore and not survived, while Kavax told him that was not a good idea, and one should not loot the bodies of those they had not personally slain; this however, did not stop Aram
- Gunthar took to exploring the dense jungle and discovered a trail of broken branches, which appeared to have been, perhaps another survivor of the shipwreck who had been moving through the jungle quickly, perhaps seeking shelter from the storm
- He continued to follow it until he found the path had come to an end; and so had the person, as he discovered a gruesome scene of bones
- He returned back and he and Bergeoff (still recovering from the concussion) followed the path; upon arriving at the scene of the bones, Gunthar looked up and spotted a massive nest, larger than any bird. Quickly he and Bergeoff returned to the others to tell them what they’d found; and all four returned. Aram climbed the tree to investigate the nest, which alerted the harpy that someone was in her nest.
- The harpy immediately used her luring song, which Kavax immediately fell under
- Gunthar tried to use Thaumaturgy to match the Harpy’s song, and perhaps free Kavax from the Harpy’s lull but it did not work.
- As the Harpy landed in the nest, Arem drew his sword and cut deep into her. She was furious and lashed out with her claws and club, badly wounding Arem. Bergeoff, seeing his brother in danger, fired an arrow badly wounding the Harpy, and it was Gunthar’s firebolt spell to her throat that silenced her song and her life, forever.
- Arem discovered a number of items; a dagger, a hand axe, and a ring among the corpses in the harpy’s nest.
- Gunthar identified the dagger as a +1 dagger, the handaxe as a +1 weapon as well, but could not, this night, identify if the ring too was magical
- Arem also located 10 gold, which he split between everyone (including Marick who healed Arem’s wounds) as well as four healing potions. Marick declined taking one, as he relief on his faith for healing.
- A storm could be heard on the northern side of the island, so the party returned to the southern end and Arem built a shelter out of the remains from the ship, as well as some of the trees and palms. They took shelter just as the storm hit, but the shelter quickly collapsed, forcing them to march into the jungle for shelter.
- They decided to head for the mountain, and as they did Kavax and Arem heard the sounds of a faint drum beat. They followed it and discovered, in the massive mountain, about 90′ up was a cave, and two small humanoids could be spotted. Waiting for the flash of lightning to light up the night sky, they could now tell the two figures were goblins.
- Gunthar fired another firebolt, and struck one of the goblins, who then drew a horn and blew into it – two goblins, who had been at the base of the mountain hunting, emerged to confront the party!
